Lots of alcoholics know WHY they have to quit the bad habit. What they really do not know is HOW to do it. Perhaps you’ve made a big legal mess or you have lost another job. It is possible that you were abandoned by both your partner and family due to your actions. Whatever the reason is, its time to take a good look at yourself and finally be convinced to quit drinking alcohol.

Alcoholics normally know that they should quit the bad habit. Nonetheless, admitting it is a lot easier than doing something about it. Lots of drinkers know in the back of their mind that they have a problem.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a Magic Pill that made you quit drinking? Or maybe a hypnotist to ‘reprogram’ your need for liquor. Wouldn’t a time machine be nice, go back in time before you had a problem and refrain from that first drink?

The fact of the matter is there is no quick and simple way. To quit drinking liquor, you must go through a process to learn how to live without liquor. Some people would crave for liquor and this could be a long and painful stage. The good news is there are methods and tools which could help you be successful. . For some people, the pain and discomfort is negligible. An alcoholic would confess that she or he tried to quit at least once. Physically craving for liquor is something one can experience for years. And if you do not learn how to live without drinking, likely you would be unsuccessful. About 1/1000 individuals struggling with liquor stay sober beyond 2 years. The odds are dismal but there is a method to be that 1.

Admitting that you have to quit drinking liquor is the first step.

It could help if you write down all of the reasons you could think of to quit drinking alcohol. Write down every reason you could think of. Put this paper in a safe place so that you can read it when you need to expel any hesitation that your have to give up drinking liquor.

Do the math when you check your credit card statements and budget. Alcohol abuse is detrimental in lots of aspects – mentally, physically and financially.

This kind of honest introspection is something you will have to get used to in order to come to terms with your life and recover fully. You will know when its the right time to quit.

Go to a Physician

The damage done to your body is something only a physician can evaluate. A physician could also evaluate how you should quit drinking. There are two choices – do it alone or be medically supervised in a hospital.

Tell People (who understand)

Telling people you trust that you will quit drinking alcohol could also help because they would understand and help you. If you need help, these people will be there for you.

Find Meetings

12 Step Meetings is a great place to meet others who have experienced the same thing you’re going through. Searching for 12 Step meetings within your neighborhood would get you started. Different meetings draw various individuals. Attend lots of meetings all around your neighborhood; in fact, you should go to 90 meetings within ninety days. These meetings will give you all of the info you need about how to quit drinking liquor.

Great job on getting to this point in your drinking career. Now its time to begin a new life…one that doesn’t involve drinking liquor.
